Fresh information has emerged in the ongoing rumors suggesting that Coventry City is on the verge of signing Marko Stamenic from Red Star Belgrade.
Sportal, a Serbian sports publication, recently reported that the Sky Blues have secured the services of the midfielder for a hefty fee of €5m (£4.2m). This comes just a year after Stamenic joined Red Star Belgrade from Copenhagen on a free transfer.
Mozzart Sport, another Serbian outlet, has confirmed these reports, stating that while Coventry quickly accepted the offer, Stamenic took some time to decide. The deal reportedly includes a 10 percent sell-on clause for the Serbian club. This additional detail further solidifies the speculations of Stamenic making his way to Coventry City in the Championship.
In other news, Red Star Belgrade has announced the signing of Dalsio Gomes, a central midfielder from APOEL Nicosia, on a two-year contract. It remains unclear if the Portuguese/Guinea-Bissau national is meant to be a direct replacement for Stamenic.
Stamenic, a 22-year-old New Zealand international of Serbian descent, made his way to Europe four years ago when he signed for Copenhagen. After a loan spell at Koge, he joined Red Star Belgrade, where he played 35 games and scored two goals in all competitions. Despite having a contract until 2027, Stamenic could not resist the offer from Coventry, leading to his imminent move to the English second division side.
