As per the Daily Record, Celtic is eyeing Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka as his future with the club is uncertain. The newspaper suggests that Newcastle is close to finalizing a £15m deal for James Trafford and is prepared to let Dubravka move on in the summer. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is keen on signing the experienced Slovakian goalkeeper following Joe Hart’s retirement.
Reportedly, Celtic faces competition from two Saudi clubs and several European teams in the race for Dubravka’s signature. The 35-year-old has been a reliable figure for Newcastle since arriving on loan from Slavia Prague in 2018. Despite stepping in for the injured Nick Pope this season and making 23 appearances in the Premier League, the imminent arrival of Trafford signals Dubravka’s potential departure.
With just one year left on his contract, a move away from Newcastle makes sense for all parties involved. Celtic, in search of a new number one, could offer Dubravka the chance to play in the Champions League next season and compete at a high level on a regular basis, should he choose Scotland over other potential destinations.
