Celtic were just one of the clubs expressing interest in Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga, but it seems he is now on the verge of a move to Spain.
Reports suggest that Lokonga, 24, has reached an agreement with Sevilla and the Spanish club are close to finalizing a deal with Arsenal.
Lokonga had a loan spell at Luton Town last season, but with their relegation from the Premier League, he is now seeking a new challenge. He arrived at Arsenal in 2021 from Anderlecht with high expectations, but struggled to make an impact.
Having made 39 appearances for Arsenal without scoring or assisting a goal, Lokonga is now ready for a fresh start.
In addition to interest from Premier League clubs such as Leicester City and Southampton, both Celtic and Rangers were also keen on Lokonga. However, Lokonga has opted for Sevilla as his next destination.
The deal between Sevilla and Arsenal is expected to be a season-long loan, with the final details being whether there will be an option or mandatory agreement included.
Despite Sevilla’s recent struggles in La Liga, including a brief relegation scare last season, they are eager to bolster their squad for the upcoming campaign. This move could be the fresh start Lokonga needs to reignite his career.
