Glentoran has officially announced the departure of the “exceptionally talented” George Feeney after the teenager landed a coveted spot with Premier League powerhouse Tottenham Hotspur. Coming from a football family, with former Northern Ireland international Warren Feeney as his father and Glens manager, George made his Premiership debut last season and scored his first senior goal in the BetMcLean Cup win against Dollingstown.
Having risen through the ranks in East Belfast and represented both Northern Ireland and Wales at youth international levels, Feeney is following in the footsteps of other Irish League prospects with significant moves this summer. He will be joining Tottenham’s U18 team, with the London club announcing several new signings on Friday.
Describing Feeney as a talented center forward, Glentoran expressed pride in his achievements and wished him well on his journey to the Premier League. Similarly, the Spurs U18 coach welcomed the new scholarship intake and looked forward to working with the players to develop their skills for the upcoming season.
In addition to Feeney’s move, Glentoran shared the news of another young talent making a Premier League move. 16-year-old left-back Darragh McCann, who joined the club at the age of 10, has signed a three-year deal with newly-promoted Ipswich Town and will be joining their U18 side. McCann, who has represented Northern Ireland at the U16 level, is set to continue his development at the professional level.
