“I don’t regret my actions, I’ll have more playing time” – Leeds United Playmaker joins newly-promoted Championship rivals after Elland Road release, leaving Leeds fans in shock as it spark controversies.

Former Leeds United Under-21s midfielder Morten Spencer has officially made the switch to Championship side Derby County after spending five years honing his skills at Thorp Arch. Originally joining Leeds as a young talent from Sunderland’s academy in 2019, Spencer quickly became a key player for the Whites’ Under-21 team in recent seasons.

The versatile Norwegian-English player, who primarily played as a defensive midfielder but also had stints as a central defender and full-back for Leeds’ youth teams, signed a contract extension in February 2023. However, he was released at the end of the 2023/24 season.

During his time with Leeds, Spencer showcased his talent by scoring six goals and providing seven assists for the U18s, along with a goal and assist for the U21s. Now, he is set to join Derby’s U21 squad initially, with hopes of eventually making the leap to the first team at the iPro Stadium.

Expressing his excitement about the move, the 20-year-old took to social media to share his joy at signing for the “massive club” under the management of Paul Warne. Derby, who secured promotion back to the Championship last season by finishing second in League One, will face Leeds on the opening day of the 2024/25 campaign.

Fans can anticipate an exciting match-up between the two clubs, with Derby visiting Elland Road on December 7, 2024, followed by a return fixture later that month on December 29.
