Leeds United are currently in a battle to secure their next transfer target as the clock ticks down towards the end of the window. Activity has slowed down on both incoming and outgoing fronts this week at Elland Road as the team is away in Germany for training and friendlies.
Despite this, there is still work being done behind-the-scenes as members of the recruitment team have been seen in discussions with manager Daniel Farke. Farke is keen on adding more players to his squad before the season opener against Portsmouth in two weeks.
Leeds have already spent £15 million on transfers this summer, but that number is expected to rise. The midfield is a top priority for Leeds as they look to replace Glen Kamara and Archie Gray. A £3.3 million offer for Austrian midfielder Dejan Ljubicic from FC Koln has been rejected, making him Farke’s top target.
Koln want to keep Ljubicic despite his contract situation, but Leeds are expected to make another bid soon. PAOK is also reportedly interested, but Leeds is the only club to have made an offer. Ljubicic has been on Leeds’ radar for a year now, and Farke sees this as the right time to make a move due to his contract status.
Ljubicic, an Austria international, could provide depth in a defensive role, although there is no immediate need for that at Leeds. Standing at 6ft2, he would bring good height to the team. With his contract running out soon, Leeds is looking to capitalize on the situation and secure him as a key addition to their squad.
