Celtic is eyeing Northern Ireland midfielder Shea Charles for a potential move to Parkhead for the upcoming season. Manager Brendan Rodgers is a fan of the former Manchester City player and is keen on adding the Southampton star to his squad.
Charles played a significant role in Southampton’s promotion to the Premier League last season, starting in 15 Championship games. Despite having a long-term contract with Southampton, Celtic is interested in securing his services and is prepared to make a substantial offer to bring him to the club before the start of the Premiership title defense.
Rodgers may consider an initial loan move for Charles before pursuing a permanent deal, similar to past transfers like Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Paulo Bernardo. The potential arrival of Charles could also lead to the departure of Matt O’Riley, who is being pursued by Southampton, possibly resulting in a swap deal between the two players.
Although Charles only made one appearance for Manchester City before joining Southampton, his contributions in the Championship were notable until the arrival of Flynn Downes limited his playing time. With Downes now a permanent addition to Southampton, Charles may see a move to Celtic as a way to secure more playing time and continue his development.
