“I don’t regret my actions, I’ll have more playing time” – Leeds United Playmaker joins newly-promoted Championship rivals after Elland Road release, leaving Leeds fans in shock as it spark controversies.

After five years developing his skills at Thorp Arch, Morten Spencer, the former Leeds United Under-21s midfielder, has officially joined Championship side Derby County. Originally recruited as a promising young talent from Sunderland’s academy, Spencer quickly became a key player for Leeds’ Under-21 team.

Known for his versatility, Spencer excelled in various positions such as defensive midfielder, central defender, and full-back during his time with Leeds. Despite signing a contract extension in February 2023, he was released at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.

During his tenure at Leeds, Spencer demonstrated his abilities by netting six goals and providing seven assists for the U18s, in addition to contributing a goal and an assist for the U21s. He is now poised to join Derby’s U21 squad initially, with aspirations of making his mark in the first team at the iPro Stadium.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the move, the 20-year-old shared his delight on social media about signing with the “massive club” managed by Paul Warne. Derby, who recently earned promotion back to the Championship, will face Leeds in their opening match of the 2024/25 season.

Fans can look forward to an anticipated clash between the two teams, with Derby visiting Elland Road on December 7, 2024, followed by a return fixture later that month on December 29.
