Hibs have completed the signing of Kwon Hyeokkyu on a season-long loan deal, adding depth and versatility to their midfield. The 23-year-old midfielder, who has fallen out of favor at Celtic under Brendan Rodgers, initially joined the champions from Busan IPark last summer on a five-year deal. However, Kwon found himself on loan at St Mirren last January where he played a key role in helping Stephen Robinson’s side secure fifth place in the Scottish Premiership and a spot in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.
Despite interest from St Mirren for another loan deal, Kwon has chosen to join David Gray’s Hibs side. Described as a player who can operate effectively as both a deeper central midfielder and as an attacking midfielder, Kwon’s athleticism, competitiveness, and comfort on the ball make him an exciting addition to the team.
Hibs manager expressed his delight in bringing Kwon to the club, highlighting the South Korean’s impressive loan spell last season as evidence of his capabilities. The club’s Sporting Director, Malky Mackay, also praised Kwon as a top professional with a strong pedigree, adding a valuable presence on the pitch.
Mackay also commended Celtic for their cooperation in facilitating the smooth transfer of Kwon to Hibs, emphasizing the efficiency and quick completion of the deal. Kwon’s arrival marks the club’s ninth signing of the summer transfer window, further strengthening their squad for the upcoming season.
