Celtic have successfully completed a permanent deal to secure the services of Adam Idah from Norwich City. Idah initially joined the Bhoys on loan during the January transfer window and made a strong impression. Despite Brendan Rodgers’ eagerness to bring him back, negotiations proved difficult due to the player’s price tag.
However, Celtic have now reached an agreement worth up to £9.5 million for the Republic of Ireland international. The club will pay £8.5 million upfront with an additional £1 million in potential add-ons contingent on certain conditions being met.
Reports suggest that Idah is scheduled to undergo a medical in Scotland on Tuesday before finalizing his “dream” move to Celtic. This transfer fee surpasses the previous record set by the purchase of Christopher Jullien but falls below the amount spent on Odsonne Edouard in 2018.
In order to offset some of the costs, Celtic have made several sales, including youth product Bosun Lawal to Stoke City for approximately £3 million and receiving around £4 million from the departures of Oh Hyeon-gyu and Sead Haksabanovic.
With the significant investment in Idah, the pressure will be on the striker to perform and live up to expectations at Celtic Park. The club has added depth with the addition of Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo in goal, as well as making Paulo Bernardo’s loan move permanent. Rodgers has also assured fans of further reinforcements in defense and midfield before the window closes.
Celtic has started the new season strongly, winning their first two games and scoring six goals while maintaining clean sheets against Kilmarnock and Hibs.
