During the last transfer window, Sunderland made multiple attempts to sign Mohamed Bamba, the talented striker from FC Lorient, according to a report from Ouest-France. However, their efforts were in vain as Lorient refused to let go of their star player.
Régis Le Bris, who previously managed Bamba during his time at Lorient, took over at Sunderland after spending two seasons at the French club. In January, Le Bris signed Bamba from Wolfsberger AC, where the 22-year-old had showcased his skills with eight goals and three assists in just 16 games.
Impressed by Bamba’s performance under his command at Lorient, Le Bris was keen on bringing him to Sunderland in the recent transfer window. The Ivorian express his desire to leave the club, prompting Sunderland to make multiple offers for his services. Their final bid reportedly amounted to around €11m, but Lorient stood firm in rejecting all offers from the Championship side.
Despite the failed attempts to secure Bamba’s signature, the possibility remains open for the striker to potentially leave Lorient in the future, especially with the transfer window still active in other leagues. Should Bamba remain at Lorient, it is speculated that Sunderland may make another move for him when the transfer window reopens in January.
