“It’s been a pleasure and a new beginning, we hope that…” -St. Gallen’s parting message to Isaac Schmidt as Leeds United finally announce defender’s arrival

In a dramatic last-minute move, Leeds United has secured the signing of defender Isaac Schmidt on a four-year contract, just in time for the transfer window deadline. The 24-year-old, who is the club’s eighth summer acquisition, brings much-needed depth and competition to the defensive lines for the team. It is reported that Leeds paid around £4.6m for Schmidt.

This announcement comes shortly after the arrival of Japanese star Ao Tanaka, who joined Leeds from Dusseldorf for a fee of £3.4m. Schmidt, who recently played for St. Gallen in the Europa Conference League, only landed in Yorkshire this morning. Despite delays, Leeds was able to finalize the deal before the window closed.

Acknowledging Schmidt’s contribution to St. Gallen over the last three years, the Swiss club posted a farewell message on Instagram, wishing him luck in his new venture at Leeds. Following his last game where he scored against Trabzonspor, Schmidt’s teammates celebrated with him on the field.

As Schmidt prepares for his new chapter at Leeds, fans can expect to see him in the no.33 shirt at Elland Road. Although he won’t be available for the upcoming match against Hull City due to EFL regulations, his arrival adds further excitement and anticipation for the season ahead.
