Having made a name for himself at Leeds United, Raphinha faced a challenging transition when he joined Barcelona. Despite attracting interest from other English clubs, the La Liga giants secured his signature in 2022 for a reported fee of £50m plus bonuses.
In an interview with RAC1’s Tu Diràs, Raphinha admitted that his early days at Barcelona were tough for both himself and his family. The Brazilian winger even contemplated leaving the club at one point due to the difficulties he faced adapting to the new environment.
Reflecting on his struggles, Raphinha said, “My adaptation was difficult for me. I knew what I had to do, but I didn’t know that it would be so difficult on a personal level. I once thought about leaving. Barca is a giant club, and it is normal that it costs. I wasn’t used to this, but it happened quickly.”
Despite the initial challenges, Raphinha’s performances improved after the 2022 World Cup, where he showcased his talent on a global stage. He finished his debut season at Barcelona with impressive statistics and continued to excel in the following season.
Although there were rumors linking him with a return to English football, Raphinha remained committed to Barcelona and never seriously considered leaving the club.
