Stoke City are currently not considering re-signing Luke Cundle from Wolves in January, according to a report by StokeOnTrentLive. The midfielder, who spent the second half of last season on loan with the Championship side, has been linked with a return this winter by journalist Alan Nixon.
However, Stoke City’s midfield is well-stocked with options such as Wouter Burger, Andrew Moran, Sol Sidibe, Bosun Lawal, Tatsuki Seko, Jordan Thompson, and Ben Pearson. StokeOnTrentLive reports that manager Steven Schumacher is focused on developing the players he already has in that position, pouring cold water on the speculation of a move for Cundle in the upcoming transfer window.
Despite Cundle’s successful loan spell with Stoke City last season, where he played 16 games and scored a couple of goals, his long-term future at Wolves remains uncertain. With competition for places in his position at Molineux, Cundle faces a challenge to break into their starting XI under Gary O’Neil in the Premier League.
Having joined Wolves as a teenager in 2014, Cundle has progressed through the club’s academy ranks and made seven first-team appearances. Alongside his time at Stoke City, he has also had loan spells with Swansea City and Plymouth Argyle to further his development.
While Cundle remains an option for Stoke City and is familiar to Schumacher, the club seems content with their current midfield options. As they prepare for a game against Oxford United after the international break, Stoke City will be looking to continue their solid start to the season, currently sitting in 11th place in the league.
