Rangers have been dealt a blow by UEFA, who have imposed a £12,000 fine on the club following their disappointing Champions League playoff match against Dinamo Kyiv at Hampden. Philippe Clement’s team suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Ukrainian side, missing out on a potential £40 million jackpot and a spot in the league phase.
The defeat was made even more painful as two late goals from Dinamo Kyiv, following Jefte’s red card, sealed the fate of the Light Blues. As a result, Rangers have been relegated to the revamped Europa League, marking a significant setback in their European campaign.
Off-field issues at the national stadium have further exacerbated the situation, leading UEFA to take action against the club for “blocking of public passageways” under Article. 38 of their regulations. In addition to the financial penalty, Rangers will have to navigate their way through the league phase against Malmo in the upcoming stage of their European journey.
