Wolves have had a difficult start to the Premier League season, leading some fans to question manager Gary O’Neil’s decisions. Despite their competitive performances, Wolves have yet to secure a win and currently sit at the bottom of the table with only one point from six games.
O’Neil has made some interesting choices this season, including starting Jean-Ricner Bellegarde out wide. However, following Bellegarde’s underwhelming performance against Liverpool, it may be time to reconsider this experiment and opt for a more natural option.
Bellegarde, who struggled to find consistency in his first season at Wolves after a promising debut, has been played out of position by O’Neil. Despite his strong pre-season performances, Bellegarde has failed to make an impact on the wing this season.
It would be wise for O’Neil to consider playing Bellegarde centrally, where he has proven to be more effective in the past. With competition in midfield, including Joao Gomes and Mario Lemina, Bellegarde could find his form and contribute more to the team.
Continuing to play Bellegarde out wide when more suitable options are available, such as Goncalo Guedes and Carlos Forbs, seems counterproductive. It’s time for O’Neil to make a change and utilize Bellegarde’s talents in a more central role for the benefit of the team.
