The Egyptian winger arrived at Stoke City from Al-Ahly in 2016 and after two seasons, he made a move to Huddersfield Town. Despite showing glimpses of talent at Stoke, Sobhi’s time in English football was largely forgettable. Stoke managed to make a profit on him, which still seems unbelievable.
Huddersfield Town paid £5.7million for Sobhi, a deal that backfired spectacularly. Stoke had signed him for a potential fee of £5million in 2016, with high hopes for his future. In his first season, he showed promise but struggled to make a significant impact. His second season saw slight improvement, but it wasn’t enough to keep Stoke in the Premier League.
Sobhi’s move to Huddersfield proved disastrous, as he only played 75 minutes of football before returning to Egypt on loan. His time in Yorkshire was a failure, and Huddersfield’s decision to sign him proved costly as they were relegated that season.
Since joining Pyramids FC, Sobhi has found success in Egypt, but his English football career was a disappointment. Looking back, a move to the Championship with Stoke might have been more beneficial for his development.
