Leeds United defender Joe Rodon showcased his defensive prowess in Wales’ match against Turkey on Saturday, despite a scary incident in the first half. Rodon, along with goalkeeper Karl Darlow, managed to keep a clean sheet as Wales drew 0-0 in Kayseri, with Turkey missing a penalty in injury time.
A clash of heads with Mark Harris left Rodon needing treatment on the pitch, but he bravely continued after being bandaged up. BBC commentator Rob Phillips described the incident as “horrible” but Rodon showed resilience by playing the full 90 minutes.
Despite the pressure Wales faced, Rodon put in a solid defensive performance, making 11 defensive actions in total. He made seven clearances, four of which were crucial headers, and successfully completed two tackles with a 100 per cent success rate. Additionally, he won three of his four ground duels and was not dispossessed or dribbled past.
Rodon’s composure on the ball was also evident, as he completed 82 per cent of his 38 passes. While defensive duties were the priority in this match, his ability to play out from the back efficiently was noted.
With an upcoming match against Iceland, Rodon is on track to earn his 50th international cap and is set to continue his impressive form for both club and country.
