Brighton & Hove Albion’s Yasin Ayari played a part in Sweden’s commanding 6-0 victory over Azerbaijan in the UEFA Nations League, but unfortunately had to be substituted in the 51st minute due to an injury. The midfielder started the game for the Blue and Yellow, but had to leave the field after colliding with Azerbaijan’s Jeyhun Nuriyev. It was reported by Aftonbladet that Nuriyev’s knee made contact with Ayari’s thigh, and he also twisted his foot during the incident, leading to an ankle injury.
Despite receiving immediate treatment on the pitch, Ayari was unable to continue and was replaced by Bologna’s Emil Holm. Following the match, Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson stated that he was unsure of the severity of Ayari’s injury. He added that Ayari opted to be substituted for precautionary reasons, as he had previously experienced a similar ankle twist a few weeks prior.
Tomasson mentioned, “He didn’t want to take any risks. He twisted his ankle a bit, which he also did a few weeks ago. So, I don’t think it’s that bad. I spoke to him immediately when he came to the bench, and he didn’t want to take any risks,” as relayed by Fotbollskanalen.
Ayari has been a regular feature in Brighton’s line-up this season, making 11 appearances in all competitions. With Brighton set to face AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, both Ayari and his team will be hoping for a swift recovery to ensure he can be available for selection in the upcoming match.
