Leeds United manager Daniel Farke was left frustrated by two pivotal decisions that went against his team in the victory over Swansea City, despite the outcome not being affected in the end.
Although Leeds currently holds the top spot in the table, the match against Swansea was a nail-biter that they managed to sneak a win in during stoppage time, rallying from behind twice to secure the victory and claim the lead on goal difference.
Swans defender Harry Darling had been performing well this season, conceding only 10 goals prior to the 4-3 defeat, and he continued his strong form by scoring the opener from Matt Grimes’ free-kick. However, Darling may have been lucky to remain on the field for the full 90 minutes after a questionable challenge on Dan James, who was on the brink of a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
Farke criticized the referee’s decisions in his pre-Luton press conference, particularly pointing out that Darling should have been sent off for the challenge and that the goal he scored might have been marginally offside.
Even though VAR was not available to determine the accuracy of these calls, the linesman’s decisions during the match were mostly correct, with several close offside calls going in Leeds’ favor.
While it’s debatable whether Darling’s challenge deserved a red card, the fact that he wasn’t even booked for the incident is perplexing. Farke also highlighted another incident where Darling should have received a yellow card for a foul on Jayden Bogle.
Overall, despite the questionable decisions, Leeds managed to emerge victorious in a thrilling match against Swansea City.
