Lee Sharpe, former Manchester United winger, has suggested that Danny Welbeck should make a return to Old Trafford. Welbeck has been in top form for Brighton this season, with six goals and two assists in his 12 Premier League starts.
The ex-United and Arsenal striker has been a standout player for Brighton under Fabian Hurzeler’s management, leading Sharpe to believe he would be a great fit for new boss Ruben Amorim.
“Manchester United should consider bringing in someone like Danny Welbeck in January,” Sharpe told Football365. “He’s been impressive at Brighton this season, showing maturity and consistency on the field.
“He’s been a hard worker, contributing both in creating chances and finding the back of the net. He seems to be thriving at the Amex Stadium and could be a valuable addition to the team.”
Sharpe also noted that while Rasmus Højlund has potential, he still needs time to develop his skills and composure, suggesting that Welbeck could provide important support.
Following a stint at Watford, Welbeck joined Brighton on a free transfer in 2020. The 34-year-old is currently under contract with the Seagulls until June 2026.
