Emery and Hurzeler were both left frustrated as they felt their respective teams should have emerged victorious following an intense four-goal spectacle at Villa Park on Monday night.
Both Aston Villa and Brighton were left unsatisfied with the draw as it saw them fall further behind the Premier League top seven at the end of 2024.
Brighton started strong and took the lead through Simon Adingra 13 minutes into the game, but Villa came back with Ollie Watkins converting a penalty to level the score. Morgan Rogers then put Villa ahead early in the second half, only for Tariq Lamptey to equalize for Brighton.
Hurzeler believed his team deserved the win due to their dominance, creating more chances and controlling the game. He was especially displeased with the nature of Villa’s penalty, feeling that goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen had been unfairly blocked.
On the other hand, Emery disagreed with Hurzeler’s assessment, asserting that Villa should have come away with all three points based on their performance. Despite the disappointment of conceding a late goal, Emery was proud of his team’s effort and believed they had done enough to secure a victory.
In the end, both managers were left feeling that their teams had missed out on a valuable opportunity to claim a crucial victory.
