Many pundits, including Alan Shearer, have criticized the decision, with Shearer describing it as one of the worst he’s seen in a long time. Arteta expressed his frustration over the incident, stating that he hopes the decision will be overturned similarly to how Bruno Fernandes was let off after a red card earlier in the season.
Despite the setback, Arsenal managed to secure a win through Riccardo Calafiori’s goal in the 74th minute, following Wolves also being reduced to 10 men after Joao Gomes was sent off. The victory kept Arsenal’s title hopes alive as they trail Liverpool by six points with a game in hand.
Wolves boss Vitor Pereira pointed to Gomes’ red card as the turning point in the match, noting that his team had missed crucial opportunities while they were in a position of strength. Pereira praised Gomes for his commitment and team spirit but accepted the referee’s decision, emphasizing that the result did not truly reflect the game on the pitch.
