Despite interest from Leeds United, Bayer Leverkusen emerged victorious in the race to sign Emiliano Buendia on loan this month. The Argentine midfielder, who had been heavily linked with a move to Elland Road, opted to join the Bundesliga champions in a deal completed well before the transfer deadline.

Former Norwich manager Daniel Farke, who worked with Buendia during their time at the Canaries, expressed his disappointment at missing out on the player. Leeds’ failed pursuit highlighted that even a club of their stature can face setbacks in the competitive transfer market.

Buendia made his debut for Leverkusen over the weekend but his first appearance did not go as planned. Despite his new team securing a 3-1 victory, the midfielder was substituted on for only 26 minutes before being replaced due to a tactical change.

Leverkusen manager Alonso praised Buendia’s influence on the game, describing him as a mature player who will likely get more opportunities to showcase his talent in Germany. However, Leeds’ successful performance over the weekend quickly shifted the focus away from Buendia’s rumored move.
