After a valiant effort at Elland Road, Régis Le Bris expressed pride in his Sunderland team despite their late defeat to Leeds United. Pascal Struijk’s stoppage-time header secured the win for the hosts, dealing a blow to the Black Cats’ top-two aspirations. Despite taking the lead through Wilson Isidor in the first half, Sunderland struggled to hold off Leeds in the second half.
Le Bris commended Leeds for their strong second-half performance and acknowledged that his substitutions failed to turn the tide of the game.
“Our first half was solid, both in attack and defense,” Le Bris commented. “It was deserved for us to be in the lead at half-time. However, Leeds came out stronger in the second half and we couldn’t match their intensity. Despite our efforts and substitutions, we couldn’t shift the game in our favor.
“Leeds performed admirably in the second half, taking more risks and building momentum. We can be proud of our first-half display and our collective effort in the second half. However, we lacked the small details that could have changed the outcome.
“We faced a tough opponent in Leeds, who capitalized on their strength. Our young team is learning from these experiences and I believe it will benefit them in the future. They are disappointed but determined to improve and achieve their goals.”
Sunderland will look to bounce back at the Stadium of Light as they take on Hull City on Saturday.
