Supporters driving to Celtic’s Scottish Cup match against Hibernian this Sunday must take heed of an important warning regarding parking. The Glasgow City Council has announced that fines will now be enforced for pavement parking, double parking, and parking next to dropped kerbs after a recent grace period.
In light of an anticipated sold-out crowd of 60,000 at Parkhead on Sunday, John Paul Taylor, the club’s SLO, has shared crucial information on social media for fans to be informed before the game. The city council’s website states, “Glasgow is cracking down on pavement parking that endangers vulnerable pedestrians, such as those with disabilities or pushing prams.”
Any pavement parking that forces pedestrians onto the road will result in a fine of £100, reduced to £50 if paid within 14 days. Double parking and parking near dropped kerbs are also grounds for penalty charges. The city council is actively assessing streets for exemptions to the pavement parking ban, with a detailed map available on their website. Drivers are urged to check the map to know which streets are exempt.
Councillor Angus Millar emphasized the importance of enforcing these restrictions to ensure the safety of all road users. He highlighted the dangers pavement parking poses to vulnerable pedestrians and the inconvenience caused by double parking and blocked kerbs. While some streets may be considered for exemptions, the majority will have no exception, and enforcement will commence this month.
