DONE DEAL “here we go” Leeds United had initially agreed to a £5 million deal for a highly talented midfielder, described as ‘absolutely sensational’, but unfortunately, the arrangement fell through at the last minute.

Leeds United fell short of the European places in an exciting 2020/21 season, but still managed a ninth place finish thanks to the magic spun by Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road.

Patrick Bamford emerged as one of the Premier League’s top goal scorers, while Luke Ayling, Gianni Alioski, and Stuart Dallas also shone in the top flight. Kalvin Phillips, the 2021 England Player of the Year, has struggled to reach the same heights since Bielsa’s departure.

In Germany, Mainz has seen a surprising rise to third place in the league, led by head coach Bo Henriksen. Nadiem Amiri, who narrowly missed a move to Leeds United in 2023, has been a standout player for Mainz after a loan spell at Genoa.

Amiri’s decision to stay in Germany has paid off, with him now captaining Mainz and earning a call-up to the Germany national team. His resurgence has been key to Mainz’s success, with Champions League qualification within reach.

Leeds United are still looking for a number ten this summer, with Pavel Sulc among the names mentioned. However, Amiri seems destined for Champions League football with Mainz, showcasing his growth and potential.
