Matheus Cunha is actually better than Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak at this one thing – it proves he’s irreplaceable at Wolves

Matheus Cunha has undeniably been the standout performer for Wolves this season amidst a challenging 2024/25 campaign. The Brazilian forward has played a crucial role in keeping the team in the Premier League survival race, contributing to 17 out of their 40 goals so far.

Thanks to Cunha’s efforts, Wolves seem to have secured another year in the top flight, with a supercomputer predicting that they may not even need to earn another point in their remaining nine games to avoid relegation.

While fans celebrate this achievement, they are bracing for potential interest in Cunha during the upcoming summer transfer window, despite him signing a new contract. His impressive performance has already captured the attention of several top Premier League clubs, with his new £62.5m release clause making him a target for teams like Arsenal and Nottingham Forest once again.

With Cunha surpassing expectations by scoring more goals than predicted, replacing him would be quite a challenge. His ability to create scoring opportunities out of nothing has been instrumental in Wolves’ success this season, earning them crucial points in key matches.

If Cunha does depart, finding a player with a similar goal-scoring prowess will be tough. Potential options within the Premier League, such as Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, could be considered. Additionally, the possibility of pursuing January target Yuri Alberto remains open, with journalist Felippe Facincani suggesting that the £50m-rated striker could be even better than Cunha.

Pereira, who has a history of working with Alberto, may see the Brazilian forward as a suitable replacement for Cunha if needed. Despite the challenge of filling Cunha’s shoes, Wolves will undoubtedly strive to secure a player who can continue their success in the upcoming seasons.
