‘Big mistake’: Pep Guardiola provides humiliating assessment of former Wolves star Matheus Nunes

Wolves’ decision to part ways with Matheus Nunes in the summer of 2023 has proven to be a shrewd move, with the club not missing the midfielder since his departure. Nunes’ exit was surrounded by controversy, with the player going on strike after learning of Manchester City’s interest.

City’s manager Pep Guardiola has since expressed his doubts about Nunes’ abilities, stating that he doesn’t believe the midfielder is clever enough to play in central midfield. Guardiola has instead deployed Nunes at right-back, where he has shown some promise.

The City manager’s comments have been seen as a humiliating admission, with Guardiola seemingly unwilling to risk playing Nunes in his favored position. This development has vindicated Wolves’ decision to sell Nunes for £53m, with the club’s former manager Gary O’Neil having made the right call in letting the player go.

Nunes’ transfer saga has ultimately worked in Wolves’ favor, with the club benefiting from a significant transfer fee. The player, on the other hand, appears to be regretting his decision to leave Wolves and join Manchester City, where he has struggled to make an impact.
