Leeds let go of an “outstanding” GK under Grayson, now he’s even better than Meslier

Leeds United supporters are fortunate to have a team that regularly contends for promotion to the Premier League. Under Daniel Farke, the Whites are pushing for a title win in the Championship, but recent decisions, such as dropping Illan Meslier, have been necessary to achieve this goal.

Meslier’s struggles with errors have led to Karl Darlow taking over as the starting goalkeeper. With Meslier’s future at Elland Road uncertain, reports suggest Leeds may target Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale in the summer.

If Leeds could turn back time, they might have made different decisions regarding their goalkeepers. A player like Kasper Schmeichel, who had a brief stint at Leeds before becoming a Premier League regular at Leicester City, would be an attractive option.

Schmeichel’s career trajectory is a testament to his skill and experience. Now playing for Celtic, he’s been outstanding, keeping 22 clean sheets in 40 appearances this season and regularly featuring in the Champions League.

Leeds may regret letting Schmeichel leave prematurely, especially given their current goalkeeping issues. With Farke’s team pushing for promotion, having a top-class goalkeeper could make all the difference.
