Brighton and Hove Albion defender Jan Paul van Hecke has been discharged from the hospital after suffering a head injury during their 4-2 loss to Brentford. Van Hecke collided with Brentford midfielder Yunus Emre Konak while challenging for a header, and he was stretchered off the pitch and given oxygen.
Both teams’ medical staff attended to Van Hecke, who initially sat up but was later laid down flat due to concerns over his condition. He was taken off the pitch and replaced by Eiran Cashin.
Brighton confirmed Van Hecke’s discharge from the hospital, saying, “Jan Paul van Hecke was taken to hospital as a precaution but has now been discharged and is on his way back to Brighton.” The club thanked fans for their messages of concern and support.
The match itself was a forgettable afternoon for Brighton, who are struggling for consistency in their push for European football. Brentford took the lead through Bryan Mbeumo, but Danny Welbeck equalized for Brighton just before halftime.
However, Brentford pulled away with goals from Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa, and Christian Norgaard, despite a late consolation goal from Kaoru Mitoma. Brighton’s Joao Pedro was also sent off for kicking out at James Collins.
