Fans of Wolves are left to ponder what could have been if Vitor Pereira had been at the helm for the entire season. After the sacking of Gary O’Neil in December, the experienced Portuguese coach took over the team. Despite never having managed in the Premier League before, Pereira had nearly joined Everton in the past.
Fortunately for Wolves, they were the ones to give him his first taste of managing in England’s top flight, and they have since been treated to some sublime football. Pereira arrived when the team was struggling, but he managed to turn their season around and now they are pushing towards the top half of the league.In April, Wolves were exceptional, winning all five of their games and breaking a 45-year-old record by winning five in a row for the first time since 1970. Pereira was recognized for his impact by winning the Premier League Manager of the Month award, a feat that had not been achieved at Wolves for over three years.
To solidify his legacy as one of Wolves’ greatest managers, Pereira will need to secure European football for the team, much like Nuno Espirito Santo did. With the level of competition in the Premier League increasing, a successful transfer window will be crucial in achieving this goal. And if Pereira can lead the team to their first major trophy since 1980, he will undoubtedly go down as one of the club’s greatest ever managers.
