Fabian Hurzeler was left fuming after Matheus Cunha avoided a red card in Brighton’s victory over Wolves, and Keith Hackett has shared his thoughts on the matter.
The former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official exclusively told Football Insider that he believed a red card should have been shown to Cunha after a late challenge.
Brighton secured a 2-0 win over Wolves at Molineux, with goals from Danny Welbeck and Brajan Gruda securing the victory for the Seagulls.
This result keeps Fabian Hurzeler’s team in contention for European football next season, with a spot in the Europa Conference League within reach.
In the first half, Cunha made a mistake in his own half, leading to Mats Wieffer being fouled by the Brazilian to prevent a scoring opportunity. Despite a penalty being awarded, Hurzeler was livid on the sidelines that Cunha didn’t receive a red card.
Keith Hackett agreed with Hurzeler, stating that he believed Cunha should have been sent off for the challenge that denied a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
Hackett also disagreed with an earlier decision in the game when a goal from Danny Welbeck was disallowed for offside.
