Wolves are in dire need of bolstering their defense this summer, and Trai Hume seems to be at the top of Vitor Pereira’s list of desired reinforcements.
The uncertainty surrounding Nelson Semedo’s future at Molineux, with his contract coming to an end soon, means that a replacement may be necessary if Fosun cannot secure a new deal with the 31-year-old.
While Bright Osayi-Samuel from Fenerbahce is an option, it appears that Wolves are particularly keen on Hume for the upcoming season.
Hume, currently 23 years old, hails from Ballymena, Northern Ireland. He has represented his country at both youth and senior levels, making his senior international debut in March 2022.
Standing at a height of around 5ft 11 inches, Hume is of average height for a modern defender. Primarily a right-back, he has also filled in on the opposite flank when needed.
Starting his career with Ballymena United before moving to Linfield in 2019, Hume faced initial challenges in securing regular first-team action. However, a successful loan spell back at Ballymena saw him return to Linfield and cement his place as the club’s first-choice right-back.
Joining Sunderland in January 2022, Hume has excelled and become a key player in their defense, playing a significant role in their promotion to the Premier League in 2025.
Reportedly earning £3,000 per week at Sunderland, Hume’s contract with the club is set to expire in June 2027, with a potential extension option available. Wolves may have a financial advantage in luring him to Molineux with the promise of a higher salary.
