£13m DEAL CONFIRMED: Sunderland set to land £13m Aston Villa signing for less than half price amid keen Leeds United interest

Aston Villa are preparing for the upcoming 2025/26 season with hopes of making a push for the Champions League once again. After narrowly missing out in the last campaign, the Midlands outfit have the chance to make some changes in their squad. They could potentially sign new players while also letting some go to make room for fresh faces.

Defender Alex Moreno has caught the eye of Sunderland, Burnley, Real Betis and Real Sociedad for a bargain fee of £5million. The 32-year-old is set to become a free agent next year as his contract at Villa Park expires in June 2026. Moreno spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, making 19 appearances and now faces uncertainty over his future at Aston Villa.

Having joined the club in 2022, Moreno has made 48 appearances and scored two goals for Villa. However, falling out of favor has led to speculation about his departure. Sunderland, Leeds United, Burnley, Real Sociedad, and Real Betis are all reportedly interested in signing the full-back. Leeds, in particular, may see Moreno as a potential replacement for Junior Firpo, who is set to become a free agent this month.

With Leeds offering regular game time, Moreno may consider a move to Elland Road. Meanwhile, Sunderland already have Dennis Cirkin available, providing competition for a starting spot. Villa have a big decision to make on Moreno’s future as they contemplate potential reinforcements for the upcoming season.
