According to Il Resto del Carlino, Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi has turned down a potential move to Sunderland in favor of playing in European competitions. Despite offering a tempting financial package, Lucumi rejected Regis le Bris’ offer.
However, there may be hope for Sunderland. Tuttomercatoweb has revealed that although Bologna has extended Lucumi’s contract, the defender is hesitant to agree to a new deal. It seems he is exploring his options and Sunderland is still interested in signing him.
Sporting director Florent Ghisolfi, who previously wanted to bring Lucumi to AS Roma, is eager to secure his transfer to the Stadium of Light. Reports suggest Sunderland is preparing to offer €20m-€25m for the player, and Lucumi could push for a transfer if this amount is presented.
Contrary to other reports, Quotidiano Sportivo has raised doubts about whether Lucumi will ultimately join the newly promoted Premier League side. Only time will tell where the talented defender will end up.
