Bologna CEO Cristiano Fenucci has acknowledged Sunderland’s interest in defender Jhon Lucumi as the transfer window nears its end. Fenucci stated that there has been pressure from Sunderland for Lucumi, and he emphasized that Bologna will not allow any exits without securing replacements.
Reports from the Italian press indicate that Bologna has been actively looking for a new center-back, with Nottingham Forest’s Morato identified as a priority target. Earlier reports from Colombia also suggested that Lucumi would only be sold once a replacement is lined up for him.
Sunderland had made an offer of €28m plus bonuses and a resale percentage for Lucumi, which was rejected by Bologna. However, they have informed the player that he will be sold if a suitable replacement is found.
Fenucci’s public acknowledgment of Sunderland’s interest in Lucumi confirms the reality of the situation, even though Bologna’s stance on the player has not changed. With Lucumi currently dealing with a muscle issue and the transfer window drawing to a close, the potential transfer remains contingent on Bologna securing a successor.
