THIRD SIGNING OF THE SUMMER: Sunderland race to make third and final addition of deadline day after agreeing deal

Sunderland is working vigorously to finalize one more incoming transfer in what has been a remarkable summer window for the club. While deals for Lutsharel Geertruida and Brian Brobbey from Ajax are in advanced stages, talks are ongoing to secure the services of winger Bertrand Traore. The Black Cats have agreed on a fee with Ajax for Traore, and there is a race against time to complete the deal before the transfer window deadline.

The potential signing of Traore would add significant Premier League experience to Sunderland, with the player having previously featured for Chelsea and Aston Villa before joining Ajax. Traore’s addition would provide depth and competition in the squad and could be facilitated by the deal sheet rule, allowing clubs extra time to finalize paperwork after the transfer window closes.

In addition to potential incoming transfers, Sunderland is also looking to offload players with Birmingham City making a move for Patrick Roberts and Niall Huggins close to a loan move to Wycombe Wanderers. Several other departures are expected, including moves for players like Nazariy Rusyn and Ian Poveda, who have not been included in the squad for the new season.

The club is also seeking opportunities for talented youngsters like Ahmed Abdullahi and Milan Aleksic to leave on loan, although potential moves have been hindered by financial restrictions in certain cases. Sunderland is busy on multiple fronts as they look to navigate through the remaining hours of the transfer window.
