Liverpool are reportedly planning a renewed attempt to sign Marc Guehi next summer after their deadline day bid for the Crystal Palace center-back fell through this season. The Reds had offered approximately £35 million for the player, whose contract is set to expire next summer.
Guehi, who is currently the captain of Crystal Palace, has no plans to extend his contract with the club beyond next season. Liverpool could face competition for his signature when he becomes available to negotiate with other clubs in the upcoming year.
Despite the potential availability of Guehi, Liverpool is not planning to pursue a bargain deal in January. The club currently boasts defensive options in the form of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez, with Konate also facing contract uncertainties.
Guehi was reportedly disappointed by the collapsed deal, having even prepared a farewell message for the Palace fans. The club’s decision to cancel the transfer came as a result of manager Oliver Glasner’s concerns about finding a suitable replacement in time.
Although Palace secured a deal for Jaydee Canvot on deadline day as a potential replacement, the French player lacks significant senior football experience. Guehi, meanwhile, has continued to be a regular starter for Palace and also featured in England’s recent World Cup qualifier against Andorra.
As Guehi’s future remains uncertain, both Liverpool and Palace will need to navigate negotiations carefully in the upcoming transfer window.
