Ipswich Town star Sammie Szmodics has had to leave the Republic of Ireland camp early due to an injury he suffered during their recent match against Hungary in the World Cup qualifying game. Szmodics, who started in the game and was substituted after 78 minutes, took to social media to announce his early departure from the camp.
In his Twitter post, Szmodics expressed his disappointment at having to leave the camp prematurely and mentioned that he hopes the injury is not too serious. He also wished his teammates good luck ahead of their upcoming match against Armenia.
Despite Szmodics’ departure, his Ipswich Town teammates Dara O’Shea, Kasey McAteer, Jack Taylor, and Chieo Ogbene, who is currently on loan at Sheffield United, are still part of the Republic of Ireland squad. O’Shea started alongside Szmodics in the game against Hungary, while McAteer, Taylor, and Ogbene came on as substitutes during the match.
