Sunderland winger Simon Adingra recently discussed his conversations with fellow Ivorian Amad Diallo about the club prior to his own summer move to the Stadium of Light.
Adingra, who joined the Black Cats from Brighton and Hove Albion for a reported fee of approximately £21 million in July, revealed that Diallo spoke highly of the club’s size and passionate fanbase. Diallo, who spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Sunderland, scoring 14 goals in 42 appearances, emphasized the importance of giving their all on the pitch.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Adingra shared Diallo’s words: “He [Amad] spoke to me about how big the club is, how passionate the fans are so if you give everything, then the fans will give everything back to me. He told me to enjoy it.”
Adingra also praised the spirited support of Sunderland fans, noting the impact they have on the team’s performance. He acknowledged the messages of encouragement from fans on social media and their eagerness to see the club succeed.
Reflecting on his Premier League debut against West Ham, Adingra recalled the intense atmosphere at the Stadium of Light and the warm welcome he received from both fans and teammates.
When asked about Sunderland’s prospects for avoiding relegation, Adingra expressed confidence in the club’s abilities and ambitions. He emphasized the strong squad and supportive environment at Sunderland, highlighting the team’s determination to establish themselves in the Premier League and avoid immediate relegation, contrary to recent trends among newly promoted clubs.
