Leeds United were left frustrated at Elland Road after falling to a 2–1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in a match they largely controlled. Daniel Farke’s side created a string of opportunities and dictated much of the play, but their failure to convert chances proved costly as Spurs made the most of their limited openings.
While Tottenham boss Thomas Frank claimed afterwards that his team “controlled the game,” few watching would have agreed. Leeds pushed hard for an equaliser late on and looked the more threatening side throughout, but once again lacked the cutting edge to turn possession into points.
Peter Crouch: “Calvert-Lewin’s Misses Cost Leeds the Game”
Speaking on TNT Sports, former England striker Peter Crouch praised Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s overall contribution but admitted that his missed chances made the difference.
“I thought Calvert-Lewin was excellent in how he linked up play and brought others into the game,” Crouch said. “He’s strong, intelligent with his movement, and always puts defenders under pressure. But when those key chances came, he had to take one — and that’s what probably cost Leeds the game today. The goals will come, though; he’s doing a lot right.”
The Leeds No. 9 has scored just once this season and has been guilty of a few costly misses in recent weeks, despite impressing with his work rate and hold-up play.
Joe Hart Backs Calvert-Lewin to Come Good
Former Premier League winner Joe Hart believes Calvert-Lewin simply needs time and fitness to rediscover his best form, insisting that Leeds is the perfect environment for him to thrive.
“I was really curious to see where he’d go after leaving Everton,” Hart told TNT Sports. “Leeds feels like a great fit — big club, passionate fans, and a style that suits him. If he stays fit, the goals will come. He just needs one or two to go in, and his confidence will take off.”
Despite the disappointment, Leeds’ performance offered encouragement that Farke’s side are capable of competing with top opposition. However, clinical finishing remains their biggest obstacle as they look to turn strong displays into results.
