£55M DOUBLE DEAL CONFIRMED: Sunderland linked with stunning £55million double move as January window approaches

Sunderland’s January transfer plans include looking for defensive reinforcements, with reports linking them to Bologna centre-back Jhon Lucumí and Liverpool’s Joe Gomez.

Sunderland previously tried to sign Lucumí in the summer but were unsuccessful. However, talks with the player’s agent are ongoing, and the club may make another attempt in January. Lucumí has hesitated to commit to a new deal with Bologna, leading to speculation about a potential transfer. Sunderland’s head coach, Régis Le Bris, is reportedly interested in adding an elite-level centre-back to their squad.

Another target for Sunderland, Joe Gomez of Liverpool, could also be available in January. Liverpool may consider letting Gomez go if they can secure a suitable replacement, with AC Milan among the interested clubs. Despite limited game time under new manager Arne Slot, Gomez remains committed to Liverpool. However, transfer insider Pete O’Rourke believes it is unlikely that Liverpool will allow Gomez to leave in January due to their defensive shortages.

Sunderland’s pursuit of defensive reinforcements shows their ambition to strengthen their squad and compete at a higher level. It will be interesting to see if they can secure the signings of Lucumí or Gomez in the upcoming transfer window.
