Heading into Saturday’s match against Manchester United, Neco Williams of Nottingham Forest is teetering on the edge of suspension. The full-back has already accumulated four yellow cards this season, and one more in the upcoming game could lead to a one-game ban.
With cautions against Brentford, Arsenal, Sunderland, and Chelsea under his belt, Williams has been skating on thin ice in the last two Premier League matches. Despite this, he still has ten games to navigate without picking up another yellow card to avoid disciplinary action.
According to The FA’s rules, a player who receives five bookings in their team’s first 19 Premier League matches will face a one-game suspension within the competition. It’s worth noting that yellow cards in the Premier League do not affect participation in the EFL Cup or FA Cup.
If a player amasses ten yellow cards in Premier League matches leading up to the 32nd fixture, they will be subjected to a two-match ban in the league.
Forest currently stand tenth in the disciplinary ranking with 17 bookings and no red cards. Another player nearing the five-card threshold is Morato, who has accumulated three yellow cards.
As Ola Aina is unavailable, manager Sean Dyche would prefer not to lose Williams even for a single game as they strive to keep Forest from the relegation zone.
