Sky Sports pundit Tim Sherwood has dismissed suggestions that Sunderland could be in the title race this season, but is confident that the Black Cats will secure a top-half finish.
After a thrilling victory against Chelsea, Sunderland found themselves briefly in second place in the Premier League before slipping to fourth. Despite this, they are only five points behind leaders Arsenal after nine games.
Although some have jokingly compared Sunderland to Leicester City’s title-winning season in 2016, Sherwood doesn’t see that happening. However, he believes that the team will comfortably avoid relegation.
Sherwood praised Sunderland’s recruitment efforts and pointed to players like Granit Xhaka as key to their success. He predicts that Sunderland will finish around 10th this season.
Echoing Sherwood’s sentiments, fellow pundit Clinton Morrison is also confident in Sunderland’s ability to remain in the Premier League. He praised the team’s performance, especially highlighting the contributions of players like Xhaka and Isidor.
Overall, both pundits are optimistic about Sunderland’s prospects and believe that they are on track for a successful season.
