Toulouse has communicated their asking price for Charlie Cresswell to West Ham United for a potential January transfer.
Cresswell has been on West Ham’s radar since summer, although a move to the London Stadium did not materialize. However, the English defender remains a target for the club and a January move could still be on the cards.
According to The Athletic, Toulouse is seeking around £22 million to part ways with the talented defender in January. This valuation has increased from the £17.6 million they wanted in the summer, reflecting Cresswell’s consistent performances.
While West Ham is in discussions regarding Cresswell, an official bid is yet to be made. Despite the increased asking price, the club is keen on securing his services in the upcoming transfer window. Their scouts have been closely monitoring his progress, indicating a possible move in the near future.
Cresswell, although content at Toulouse, recognizes that a return to the Premier League could enhance his chances of earning a spot in the England national team.
The 23-year-old received praises from his former manager at Millwall, Gary Rowett, for his defensive solidity and goal-scoring abilities during his loan spell. His current manager at Toulouse, Carles Martinez Novell, also commended his aerial dominance and fighting spirit on the field.
Nuno Espirito Santo, the West Ham manager, would value a player like Cresswell in his squad, particularly with concerns about the consistency of other defensive options this season. While the asking price may pose a challenge, West Ham may explore offering a player in exchange to negotiate a lower fee for Cresswell’s transfer.
