Former Premier League striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has made a bold claim about Leeds United surviving in the Premier League following their 3-1 win over Chelsea at Elland Road on Wednesday night.
Leeds arrested their alarming run of form and produced a remarkable performance to beat an in-form Chelsea side at home to move out of the relegation zone. Jaka Bijol, Ao Tanaka, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the goals to ensure Leeds win all three points and prove that they are still very much in the race for Premier League survival.
Daniel Farke largely confirmed that he won’t be sacked any time soon with the result and finally changed his formation, which resulted in a solid performance and a win on Wednesday night. Former Chelsea star Jason Cundy went on a rant on Wednesday night following the result and insisted that he wants Leeds to get relegated all the way back to League One.
His talkSPORT colleague Agbonlahor conceded that it is not going to happen any time soon. The former striker insisted that Leeds remain one of the favorites to go down this season. However, he believes Wednesday night’s performance showed that they can stand up to any team in the Premier League at home.
He believes Leeds will be safe if Leeds continue to use their home fans and keep getting results at Elland Road. “Not going to happen [for Jason Cundy]”, Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT.
“Are Leeds one of the favorites to get relegated this season? Yes, they are.
“If they can make Elland Road a fortress, like they did last night, and stand up to any team going there.
“If they use that home fanbase to their advantage, they have every chance of staying up.”
Leeds’ home form was tottering ahead of the game against Chelsea. They had lost two of their last three home games in the Premier League. A new formation did the trick against Chelsea as Leeds roared back to form with an excellent win in front of their fans.
Leeds need their home form to be their shield this season as they have only won once in their seven games on the road in the Premier League. They have picked up three wins at home out of seven, and now need to build on that to ensure that they stay in the top flight at the end of the campaign.
A struggling Liverpool side is set to visit Leeds on Saturday, and the Whites look like the more confident side compared to the reigning Premier League champions.
Farke and his team need to ensure that Liverpool is still struggling when the final whistle blows at Elland Road this weekend.
