Forward Arnaud Kalimuendo set to join Eintracht Frankfurt from Nottingham Forest
Arnaud Kalimuendo, who only recently arrived at Nottingham Forest from Rennes for a significant fee, is now poised to make a move to Eintracht Frankfurt. The 23-year-old forward seems to be on the brink of departing Forest as the club’s first transaction of the January transfer window.
According to reports from Sky Sports Germany, Kalimuendo is expected to undergo a medical today in preparation for a loan transfer to Frankfurt. Forest is likely to receive €1.5 million (£1.3m) as a loan fee, with an option for Frankfurt to buy him for €27 million (£23m) included in the deal. Kalimuendo’s appearance in the recent defeat against Aston Villa might be his final game for Forest, having come on as a substitute late in the match.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, head coach Sean Dyche has expressed confidence in playing Kalimuendo, emphasizing that he is a current player for Nottingham Forest and any decisions regarding his transfer will come from the club.
The departure of Kalimuendo, who has struggled for game-time at Forest, will leave Dyche in search of a new striker before the transfer window closes. With top scorer Chris Wood sidelined due to injury and transfer speculation surrounding Taiwo Awoniyi, Forest will be looking to reinforce their forward line.
Igor Jesus, who has been a regular starter but has only scored once in the Premier League, will likely carry the attacking burden for Forest in their upcoming Europa League fixtures if Kalimuendo’s move goes ahead as planned. Without Awoniyi available in the Europa League squad, Forest will rely heavily on Jesus as their sole recognized forward option.
As they gear up for crucial Europa League matches against Braga and Ferencvaros, Forest is also preparing for a significant Premier League showdown against West Ham United. Dyche’s side will need to navigate these fixtures with a limited number of forward options available.
