BREAKING NEWS: Derby County backed to complete signing of Sammie Szmodics from Ipswich Town

In Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk’ series, Derby County is rumoured to be interested in Ipswich Town’s Sammie Szmodics, with hopes of bringing the Republic of Ireland international to Pride Park.

Despite other Championship teams also eyeing the 30-year-old attacker, Derby is backed to secure his signature. Szmodics previously played under Derby’s John Eustace at Blackburn Rovers before transferring to Ipswich in 2024, scoring four goals in 20 Premier League games as the Tractor Boys were relegated back to the Championship.

With Derby struggling for goals, a fan has urged the club to sign the former Championship Golden Boot winner. Szmodics has had a goalless start to the 2025/26 season due to injuries and is seeking a fresh start.

Derby’s Fan Pundit, Shaun Woodward, believes Szmodics is worth the risk, citing his success under Eustace at Blackburn and potential to boost Derby’s attacking options. The team’s lack of goals, especially in Morris’ absence, highlights the urgent need for a proven goal-scorer like Szmodics.

Derby County has only scored 35 goals in 26 games this season, underscoring the need for someone to step up in the final third. Szmodics, with his history of goals under Eustace, could be the missing piece to Derby’s attacking puzzle and propel them towards a top 10 finish in the Championship.
