Leeds United legend Andrew Hughes has bid farewell to his coaching role at Norwich City to make the move to Leicester City. The 46-year-old has been brought on board by the Foxes to join forces with new manager Steve Cooper, who recently took over at the King Power Stadium following Enzo Maresca’s departure to Chelsea.
Hughes had been part of David Wagner’s coaching staff at Carrow Road, having previously worked with him at Huddersfield Town. After Wagner’s departure following a play-off defeat to Leeds last season, Hughes decided to take on a new challenge at Leicester.
A former midfielder for Leeds during his playing days, Hughes transitioned into coaching after retiring from professional football. He has had coaching stints at various clubs in Yorkshire, including Huddersfield, Sheffield Wednesday under Garry Monk, and Sheffield United’s under-23 team. Hughes also spent time as a first-team development coach at Rotherham United.
Norwich’s sporting director, Ben Knapper, expressed his disappointment at losing Hughes but wished him all the best in his new role. Knapper stated, “Andrew’s impact on the team has been undeniable, and his energy and enthusiasm will be greatly missed at the training ground. We have no doubt that he will achieve great success in his new challenge at Leicester.”
